Pearl Jam CD influenced by Iraq war
Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder said that the band's upcoming eighth album was influenced by recent events such as the 2004 presidential election and the occupation of Iraq. Vedder explained, "It's understandable why someone would like their entertainment to provide an escape from modern day worries and the reality of war. We feel this record creates a healthy opportunity to process some of these emotions rather than deny them."In a posting at the band's official web site, Vedder said that the new disc has provided the veteran Seattle rockers with a fresh burst of energy: "Our band is like an old car, and this record is our new engine."
The 13-track self-titled album will arrive on May 2nd.
Starting Wednesday, March 8th, the disc's first single, called "World Wide Suicide," will be available for two days as a free download at pearljam.com. It will be offered as a paid download beginning on March 14th.
This will be Pearl Jam's first new studio effort in four years, following 2002's Riot Act.
The band is said to be days away from announcing tour plans.
