Second Beatles box set in the works

A second batch of American-version Beatles albums are being remastered for a possible second box set, according to Musicangle.com. The albums -- which differ from their UK counterparts in both sound and tracklisting -- include The Early Beatles, Beatles VI (6), the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Help!, and Rubber Soul. The website quoted renowned mastering engineer Ted Jensen as saying that at London's Abbey Road Studios, the group's entire UK catalogue is also being digitally remastered for future release.

The Beatles are currently involved in a lawsuit against their record label Capitol/EMI, so fans shouldn't expect any re-releases before a settlement takes place.

2004's The Capitol Albums Vol. 1 box set included both the stereo and mono mixes of the Beatles' first four American issued albums, including Meet The Beatles, The Beatles' Second Album, Something New, and Beatles' 65.

The set featured the stereo debut of most of the group's pre-1965 catalogue.

Although nothing has been officially announced, the 1964 double album narrative disc The Beatles' Story is seemingly lost in the shuffle. The disc, which is fairly inaccurate historically, has long been a sentimental fan favorite and serves as a snapshot of early Beatlemania -- including many unique early Beatles interviews.

The Beatles catalogue was first issued on CD in 1987 and 1988.
