Simon & Garfunkel to tour in 2007?

Art Garfunkel says that a Simon&Garfunkel tour isn't out of the question for next year. Garfunkel, who's currently recording a new album, said that the two may hit the road in celebration of the pair's 50th anniversary explaining that, "There's a chance. Why wouldn't there be a chance? I had a ball with Paul (Simon) doing the Old Friends tour (in 2003-2004). It worked onstage and it was a lot of laughs backstage, truly. We were back in junior high school."

He says that ultimately, he'd like to record a studio album with Simon -- their first since 1970's Bridge Over Troubled Water: "The most exciting option is to go into the studio and cut something, but you've got to talk with him about that. I like that notion. When Paul and Artie get together, a third person emerges called "Simon & Garfunkel," and it has a feel of its own."

The singer told us during the duo's last tour that he'd be more than willing to record new Simon & Garfunkel music:

You know, if Paul showed me a tune on this tour that he was working on and it was very us, I'd sort of be knowing he's saying, 'Can you dig it? Can you relate to it? If so, maybe we should put it down.' And there you go. And I suppose, you know, that's not a faraway notion."

The duo recorded a new studio track titled "Citizen Of The Planet," which was included on the duo's 2004 Old Friends Live On Stage album.

Simon's 1983 Hearts And Bones album was originally intended as a Simon & Garfunkel reunion album titled Think Too Much. After the duo clashed over various artistic decisions, Simon wiped Garfunkel's vocals from all of the completed tracks. Bootleg copies exist of the "Garfunkel" version of the album.

Garfunkel has recently reunited with '70s producer Richard Perry, and has already recorded a couple of standards including "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Someone To Watch Over Me." No word on when the album -- which reportedly is not a standards set - will be issued.

Art Garfunkel kicks off a European tour on June 17th in Amsterdam. He'll be back in the States on July 15th, for a run of dates that begins in Cincinnati, Ohio.
