U2's Bono receives top Chile honour
U2 frontman Bono received Chile's highest honour for the arts on Sunday (February 27th). The Associated Press reports that President Richard Lagos gave him an honorary medal named after late Chilean Nobel Prize poet laureate Pablo Neruda. During the ceremony at the La Moneda presidential palace, Lagos also presented Bono with a traditional small lute-like instrument called the charango.In addition to Bono's honour, the entire band received Amnesty International's 2005 Ambassador of Conscience award during a ceremony in Chile on Sunday (February 27th). New Chilean president-elect Michelle Bachelet told the band, "You are a reminder to all of us that the world is not changed only by politicians and governments. The world is changed by all of us."
Bono is nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
U2 perform in Buenos Aries, Argentina on Wednesday, March 1st and will wrap up their current tour on April 8th in Honolulu, Hawaii.
