Will The Who need a new drummer?

When the Who tour this year, Zak Starkey is expected to be their drummer, but he's also got another offer on the table. Starkey, who's the son of Ringo Starr, has also recorded and toured with the band Oasis, and they'd like to have him as a permanent member. Guitarist Noel Gallagher told The Toronto Sun, "He's definitely, definitely, definitely going to record on the next (Oasis) record and definitely going to be out on the road, if he wants to." Gallagher added, "If he came to me tomorrow and said, 'I want to leave the Who and join you lot permanently,' I'd say, 'Brilliant. Get me your dad's autograph and you're in.'"

Oasis have been accused of making music that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Beatles.

There's been no word from the Who camp on how long they expect Starkey to stay with the group. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are working on new music for their tour this year, but Starkey's been out with Oasis, so the Who gig went to Peter Huntington, who played "brilliantly," according to Townshend.

The Who will play shows in Europe this summer, with North American dates to follow later in the year. There's also been talk of hitting Japan, Australia, and elsewhere next year.
