Aerosmith bassist: Tour cancelled for a reason

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is doing much better now that he's had an operation on his ailing throat. The group cancelled the last three weeks of their spring tour with Cheap Trick because of the injury, and bassist Tom Hamilton told us that the decision was made to allow Tyler to heal, and to make sure the band will continue: "It's like, you know, a sports injury. If it's there, and if there's a chance that you could injure it permanently by not taking care of it, then that's what you do. You've gotta follow doctor's orders. Steven had a wear-and-tear thing happening. It was a crossroads -- we had to make a decision -- and we decided that we should lay off the rest of the tour, and come back in September and go back out."

Hamilton also told us that the Aerosmith vocalist has been badly injured before and does everything he can to perform: "He took his knee out on stage a few years ago, and he just, he powers through it, he really does sacrifice his body, and so he's just gotta maybe ease up on that. (laughs) I don't, I don't ever seem him doing it, but I think... you know, he's actually pretty good at taking care of his throat, so I think he's just gonna get even more intense about it."
