Bruce Springsteen says new music part of the journey
Bruce Springsteen says making new music is part of the journey, both for him and for his audience. He's got a new record out on Tuesday, April 25th, with We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, and while it's different from anything he's ever done before, he wants people to know it's all related to what's come before. Springsteen was interviewed on Good Morning America on Monday, April 24th, and he said, "Well, sometimes I play (the older material), and sometimes I don't... Even with the E Street Band on the last tour, I think half the show was new music. The trick is, the new music has to be good -- that helps people not forget the old music, but it helps them put it in place... You gotta make people still ask, 'What happens next?', not 'What happened last?' You gotta keep 'em interested in what's gonna happen next in the story you're telling."As for why he chose to honor folk music icon Pete Seeger, the "Boss" said, "The records wee an enormous source to go to for lost voices in American history, and all those great lost stories. And you get to sing in the voice of somebody who lived a hundred years ago -- some of them three-four hundred years ago."
Springsteen and his Seeger Sessions Band will performed live on Good Morning America on Aprin 25th. They kick off their tour in New Orleans on Sunday (April 30th).
