Dave Matthews Band in the studio
The Dave Matthews Band is currently in its Charlottesville, Virginia studio working on the follow-up to last year's release, Stand Up. RollingStone.com reports that the group has spent the last month laying down ideas for its next album. Matthews said that everyone's just having a good time, explaining, "We're just playin', hanging out. We're not deadlining anything. The fact that anything's being recorded is just beside the point. We're just sitting in a room, making noises -- then we'll see what happens."
In the past, the Dave Matthews Band has debuted new material live in concert. Matthews told us that he thinks it's good to test the songs live before laying them down in the studio: "What has happened is that we've sort of played -- the majority of the music we sort of played out and traveled and toured on, and then we come up with a sound."
The band kicks off a tour on May 30th in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The group recently made its entire catalog available online at iTunes.
