David Gilmour wraps up US tour
David Gilmour wraped up his North American dates with a show on Thursday, April 20th, at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. The tour has been in support of his new album called On An Island, and the Pink Floyd guitarist told us that the title is significant to him on a couple of levels: "The meanings for the phrase 'on an island' are many, and many of them sort of apply to me, you know, as an English person who's born on an island, and lives on an island, and has through circumstances become slightly more insular than I might otherwise have been. That, and the specifics of the moment of the song 'On An Island' itself. It all seemed to fit." Gilmour and his band, which includes Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright and Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera, will appear tonight on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
In other news, a concert DVD is in the works. Gilmour will shoot his performances on May 29th and 30th at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The director is David Mallet, who did Gilmour's 2002 In Concert DVD, and he's also worked with Queen, U2, AC/DC, and Pink Floyd.
