Evanescence to walk through the open door
Evanescence has set The Open Door as the title of its second album, according to Revolver magazine. The disc is tentatively due out in August, although an exact release date has not yet been confirmed. The album will follow up the band's massively successful 2003 major label debut, Fallen, which has sold over six million copies. It will also be the group's first effort without founding guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody, who exited in late 2003. Singer Amy Lee told us that fans should expect a different type of album from Fallen: "It isn't gonna be the same record. I wouldn't let it be, even if nothing had changed. I don't like repeating myself, I'd rather do something completely new. So it's gonna be fun."
Lee told Revolver that the band went through some challenging times while making the new CD, admitting, "When we started recording, I was in a pretty dark place -- there were nights where I'd stand in the backyard, turn up Pink Floyd really loud and jump in the pool with my clothes on. It was a tearful, rough time." But Lee said she loves The Open Door "10 times more" than its predecessor, calling it "sexier."
Evanescence guitarist Terry Balsamo, who replaced Moody, suffered a stroke as a result of a torn neck artery last November. Lee recently posted online that he was doing "really well."
The band also sued its former manager, Dennis Rider, accusing him of professional negligence and sexual assault, among other claims. Rider countersued for millions in unpaid management commissions.
Lee split last fall with her boyfriend of two years, Seether frontman Shaun Morgan.
