Foo Fighters drummer enjoys it on the road
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins is touring on a smaller scale than usual with his side band, the Coattail Riders. Instead of large buses, good catering, deluxe hotels and a full road crew, Hawkins says the Coattail Riders are traveling in a rented RV, eating at roadside diners, staying at Motel 6 and moving their own gear. But Hawkins told us that he's actually enjoying it this way: "I get bored on the big tours sometimes. It becomes a bit like Groundhog Day, where it's the same thing every day. You know, you go and here's your dressing room, and you sit there, and soundcheck's at four -- and I like this just as much, if not more at this point. I don't want to say I don't enjoy what I do in the Foo Fighters, 'cause I totally do and I love that, but I also sometimes feel a little bit too insulated." Hawkins and the Coattail Riders are touring in support of their self-titled debut album, which was released last month. The group closes out its run on Monday, April 24th, in Minneapolis.
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and his wife, Jordyn, became parents to Violet Maye Grohl on April 15th in Los Angeles. A post at the band's website said she weighed in at 6 pounds and 15 ounces, measuring 21 inches tall. Dave Grohl described her as "just perfect."
The band is expected to begin an acoustic U.S. tour sometime this summer, most likely in June.
