Metallica & Alice In Chains in Hollywood
Metallica frontman James Hetfield and bassist Robert Trujillo will perform with Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney at the second annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert on Friday, May 12th at the Music Box Theater in Hollywood, California. Hetfield, who successfully went through drug and alcohol rehab in 2001, will also be honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for "his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and his devotion to helping other addicts with the recovery process," according to a press release. Jason Mraz and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will also perform at the event.Hetfield's struggle to get sober was chronicled in the 2004 documentary, Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster.
Concert promoter and manager Bill Silva will also be honored at the event with the MusiCares From The Heart Award.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community with access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.
Metallica will play some European and Japanese festivals this summer and is currently writing its ninth studio album, which it will record later this year with producer Rick Rubin.
