Metallica lending voices to cartoon

Metallica frontman James Hetfield and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett have contributed their voices to a new cartoon series called Death Clock Metalocalypse, according to TV.com. The show is about a Norwegian heavy metal band called Deathklok who are described as "incredibly stupid" and constantly leaving "a path of destruction and mayhem behind wherever they tour." The series will premiere in August on the Cartoon Network.

It is not known whether Hetfield and Hammett will appear as themselves or as other characters.

Metallica's members have lent their voices in the past to The Simpsons and Dave The Barbarian.

Metallica recently returned from their first-ever trip to South Africa and is working on its ninth studio album with producer Rick Rubin. The group will perform at several European and Japanese festivals this summer.
