Neil Young predicts landslide of political activism
If Neil Young is right, the political situation in this country is about to undergo radical change. His new album called Living With War is available as a free stream at the official neilyoung.com website, and he said the protest themes on the record will soon spread outward. Young told today's (Friday, April 28th) New York Times, "We are the silent majority now, and we haven't done a damn thing. We've stood by and watched this happen. But there's more of us than there is of them, and we have to do something. When people start talking and see they can get away with it, it's going to happen everywhere. It's going to be a landslide, it's going to be a tidal wave. This is just the tip of it." He also said, "These are all ideas we've heard before. There's nothing new in there. I just connected the dots."
The album has a song on it called "Let's Impeach The President," but Young's not so sure that's the best idea. He said, "If you impeach Bush, you're doing a huge favor for the Republicans. They can run again with some pride."
Living With War will be available at the major download sites beginning Tuesday (May 2nd), and a CD should be released in the next week or two. Young is also working on a DVD with footage from the recording sessions, which took place between March 29th and April 6th.
The singer/guitarist isn't worried that having the free stream at his site could hurt sales, He said, "Even if it turns out that we can't sell it... we'll just stream it. We don't have to sell it. We can still get it out there. This has nothing to do with money, as far as I'm concerned."
