Supernova want scary singer
Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee says that Supernova, the "supergroup" he's playing in with ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, needs a "scary" lead singer. Lee said, "The singer, the ringleader, should be a little dangerous, a little scary, like we're not sure if he's going to make it through the show. You know, there's something exciting about that someone with something to say, somebody who is elusive and weird and strange." That special someone will be found by the group during the second season of Rock Star, which will air this summer on CBS.
Newsted added, "They have to be able to go out there, arms flailing, and then jump back and get the hell out of the way. When I go by flying, spitting sweat and blood, they have to be able to hang with that."
The group is auditioning singers and writing songs now as the show is being filmed. After the band finds its vocalist, the foursome will head into the studio to record their debut album while Rock Star is airing.
The debut season of Rock Star focused on INXS' search for a frontman to replace late singer Michael Hutchence. Newsted said the dynamic will be different this time because Supernova is a brand new group, with no previous material or singer.
