Velver Rovolver working with hip hop producer
Velvet Revolver is working on its second album with hip-hop super-producer Pharrell Williams, according to Billboard. Williams confirmed his involvement to Billboard, although it was not clear whether he will be producing the entire record. Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan told us that the band was working with a "couple of different guys," although he declined to identify them. McKagan also told us that the group was slated to enter the studio next Monday (April 10th) and that he was expecting to make a very diverse record: "This is a very musical band. I don't think the first record didn't show that, but, you know, I think there's a lot more musicality that can be shown. I think it was shown in our live shows more. It's just natural with a group of, like, veterans that we are that our second record should be bigger." Williams is also reportedly working with VR frontman Scott Weiland on a track called "Happy," which will most likely appear on Weiland's second solo album.
This comes as rumors regarding both Velvet Revolver and Guns N' Roses boiled over last week, with unconfirmed and seemingly untrue reports claiming that lead guitarist Slash had left Velvet Revolver.
The speculation about Slash's status followed reports that he, McKagan and their former GNR bandmate W. Axl Rose recently attempted to settle their longstanding legal issues. To add to the confusion, England's Classic Rock magazine published a story suggesting that Rose attempted a one-time reunion of himself, Slash, McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Izzy Stradlin' for two upcoming GNR shows in the U.K.
A representative for Velvet Revolver's record label told us that an official press release on the band's activities was being considered.
