Velvet Revolver members go country
Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland and bassist Duff McKagan will act as celebrity judges on the seventh episode of Nashville Star, the USA Network's top-rated country music series. The show will broadcast live at 10 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 25th. The guest spot is not too much of a stretch for Duff, who told us he's been spending some time in the country music capitol lately: "I've been going to Nashville and writing with country guys down there. It was just something I'd never thought I would ever do, but I was kind of pulled there by Chrysalis, who publishes Velvet Revolver songs, and I've been going down there to write with the Music Row Nashville guys, and it's a lot of fun." Meanwhile, McKagan, Weiland and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum spoke this week with Rolling Stone about Velvet Revolver's second album, which is tentatively titled Libertide.
Sorum said, "We really want to make a deeper album this time. The other record was more of a collaboration -- now we want to see what everyone brings to the table on their own."
Weiland added that the group has written 50 songs, from which it will record 20 and pick 16 for the album's final track listing.
The group is working with a number of producers on the project, including hip-hop superstar Pharrell Williams.
