Dark Side of F1 with Roger Waters
Mosts artists will say they're never sure how the public will react to an album, but Roger Waters always knew the 1973 album The Dark Side Of The Moon would resonate with people. The ex-Pink Floyd singer-bassist told Billboard, "When the record was finished, I took a reel-to-reel copy home with me, and I remember playing it for my wife then, and her bursting into tears when it was finished. And I thought, 'This has obviously struck a chord.' I was kind of pleased by that. I thought to myself, 'Wow, this is a pretty complete piece of work,' and I had every confidence that people would respond to it."The singer/bassist will perform Dark Side in its entirety on his world tour this year, which starts June 2nd in Lisbon, Portugal. North American shows begin September 6th and run through October 12th. The idea to play the album actually came from the people behind Formula 1 auto racing, who wanted to celebrate their centennial this year with a Pink Floyd performance. When representatives for the band turned the offer down, Waters was contacted, and he said, "The more I've worked on it, the more the idea has grown on me... I've got a great band together, and I have every hope that we will do the work justice."
Waters and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason will celebrate Formula 1's 100th anniversary by doing Dark Side on July 14th at the Magna-Cours racetrack in Nevers, France. An invitation has also been extended to keyboardist Richard Wright.
