Keith Richards out of the hospital
Keith Richards has been discharged from the New Zealand hospital where he had skull surgery on Monday (May 8th). The Rolling Stones guitarist left Ascot Hospital in Auckland on Wednesday (May 10th), but he's still under doctor's care and will remain in New Zealand for the time being so he can return to the facility for checkups. Richards said, "From the doctors to the beautiful ladies who make painful nights less painful and shorter, I'm pretty much at a loss for words to express my deep gratitude I hope I wasn't too much of a pain in the arse -- after all, it was my head they fixed," according to the New Zealand Herald. The guitarist fell out of a tree while on vacation in Fiji last month and was airlifted to New Zealand. Doctors this week relieved pressure that had built up in his skull by drilling one or more holes and draining some blood. In related news, representatives for the Stones continue to deny reports that Richards has actually had two operations, and that his condition is much worse that they're saying. The UK tabloid The Sun quoted a source close to the man himself as saying things are much worse than has been announced, and that the guitarist could have brain damage or be partially paralyzed, and that he might never be able to perform again.
Regardless of the severity, his injury has forced the Stones to delay the European leg of their A Bigger Bang world tour. It was originally supposed to start May 27th in Barcelona, Spain, but the official word is that it will get underway sometime in June, with more details expected soon.
