Pearl Jam let the music speak for itself
So why did Pearl Jam wait until the band's eighth studio album to simply call the record Pearl Jam? Guitarist Mike McCready says that the explanation is simple: "We decided that the music on this record was what was gonna say the most about the record. So the title was kind of secondary, and then it -- it's just, it's what it is. It's just who we are, we're Pearl Jam, and that's why we didn't have any thoughts on it, other than the music is what's gonna tell you what it's about." Pearl Jam the album arrived in stores on Tuesday, May 2nd. It's the group's first studio set since 2002's Riot Act.
The band will perform a mini-concert on Thursday, May 4th, at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in Manhattan, just after taping an appearance on Late Show With David Letterman that will air later that evening.
To see the concert, go to cbs.com/latenight/lateshow on May 4th at approximately 5:55 P.M. ET, when the performance is expected to begin.
The band will also play a surprise show this Friday (May 5th) in New York City, followed by a North American tour that begins on May 9th in Toronto, Canada.
