Tool not taking fans for granted
Tool made a huge Number One debut on last week's Billboard Top 200 with the band's fourth album, 10,000 Days, but with five years having passed since their last effort, there was no guarantee that the group's fans would still be interested. Singer Maynard James Keenan told us that he doesn't take it for granted that the audience for Tool is still out there: "Oh, you can't ever assume that. You just have to do what feels right for you, and take the time you need and just follow your heart. And if people ended up coming around for it, great, if they didn't, then that's fine too. You can't base your life around whether people are gonna show up or not."
10,000 Days sold 564,000 copies in its first week of release. The group's previous album, 2001's Lateralus, sold nearly as many and also entered the chart at Number One.
Tool's current small venue tour stops in Detroit tonight (Monday, May 15th) and concludes on May 21st in Boston.
Bassist Justin Chancellor told said that the group's next North American trek, an eight-week swing through arenas, will begin in August and run through late September.
