Aerosmith guitarist upping support for Sierra Leone musicians
Joe Perry will be in Woodstock, Vermont, tonight (Friday, June 30th) for a show by the West African group the Refugee All Stars. The Aerosmith guitarist and his wife Billie sponsored the gig after seeing a documentary about the musicians, who came together in refugee camps in Guinea after fleeing their homes because of the civil war that raged for more than a decade in their native Sierra Leone. Perry is glad to help spread the word, but he told us that there are less expensive ways for people to help the Refugee All Stars: "The most important thing they can do is go to the website and order a record. And then there are links to charitable organizations -- you know, if you're moved at all by the situation, there are definitely places where you can send $10, or send $1,000, or anywhere in between. But the main thing is, buy some of the CDs and a T-shirt, you know? I mean, that's what's really gonna help, and it'll keep them on the road, and they can still carry their message." For more information about the Refugee All Stars, the movie, and to order their CD, go to the official refugeealstars.org website.
