Bad Company drummer: English fans are a "cancer"

Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke is enjoying this year's World Cup football matches, but he was unhappy with the behavior of some of the English fans on Saturday (June 24th). A small-scale riot broke out in Stuttgart between English fans and those from Germany, who were celebrating their team's win over Sweden. Local police moved in and arrested many of the visiting Brits, who were there to watch their squad take on Ecuador yesterday (Sunday, June 25th). Kirke has been a football fan his whole life, but he told us that the actions of a relatively small group like this give everyone a black eye: "We've had this terrible reputation, you know, about soccer violence. And it's the only sport -- in the world -- where the fans can act like criminals. It just brings out this rabid side of people. It's horrible -- it's a real sort of cancer."

England defeated Ecuador 1-0.

Kirke is getting ready for his turn as a counselor at the upcoming Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp, which takes place in August in New York City.
