Def Leppard receive hometown honour
The members of Def Leppard were in the band's hometown of Sheffield, England, to receive an official honour on Friday, June 16th. The group was named to the "Sheffield Legends" list and was inducted into the city's hall of fame. They noted the honour by unveiling a bronze plaque in front of Sheffield Town Hall. Jan Wilson, who is the Sheffield Council leader, said, "Def Leppard truly deserve their place as Sheffield Legends and have been great ambassadors for the city wherever they have performed throughout the world... In terms of international record sales, they are up there with the top musicians of all time." Other performers named as Sheffield Legends include Joe Cocker and Monty Python member Michael Palin.Def Leppard play in Sheffield on Saturday, June 17th, and their European tour ends Sunday (June 18th) in London. North American shows with Journey begin next Friday (June 23rd) in Camden, New Jersey.
