The Who to make webcasting history
When the Who take the stage in Hyde Park in London on Sunday (July 2nd), the whole world will be able to watch the show. The band is webcasting their entire performance at thewholive.tv, and they're charging 99 cents, with the money going to various philanthropic organizations through guitarist Pete Townshend's Double O Charity.Townshend said, "No band has ever committed to webcasting live music from their entire show. No band has promised that all profits from webcasting will be passed to charity. No band has ever committed to provide their fans with a way to access their live events from any part of the world, and to be able to download or buy high quality CDs and DVDs of every show in the certain knowledge that the profits will go to charity. It is hoped that this world Who tour will generate an extraordinary seven- or even eight-figure sum for charitable organizations, and that Who fans everywhere can feel rightly proud that they are the principle benefactors in this circle of good will."
If you'd rather check out the gig away from your house or office, it will be shown across the U.S. at Hard Rock Cafe locations in New York City; Chicago; Orlando, Florida; Hollywood, Florida; and Hollywood, California; as well as in Europe in Rome, Barcelona, and Paris.
The Who are making a portion of each concert available at thewholive.tv for $0.99, but this will be the only complete show in the series.
They are also selling CDs and DVDs from just about every stop on the tour.
