Cadillac scrap Led Zeppelin rock anthem
Don't expect to hear Led Zeppelin during Cadillac commercials any more. According to Autoweek magazine, General Motors is ready to unveil a new ad campaign, and the company will no longer be using Zeppelin's "Rock & Roll" as the theme music. Auto industry sources quoted by the magazine say Cadillac will now target younger, more affluent people who might normally buy a luxury car from a foreign automaker, and that Led Zeppelin's music no longer fit the profile. The new ad campaign begins this month, and it won't have a central theme song.Vocalist Robert Plant told us there was nothing wrong with using "Rock & Roll" in commercials: "I think that's appropriate. I don't know how people view it, but as far as a young generation goes, if you hear that music in as many possible places as you can outside of the normal home for it, then it can only be a good thing."
The Cadilac "Break Through" ad campaign started in early 2002.
