Evanescence bassist leaves band
Evanescence bassist William Boyd has quit the band, according to a posting by lead singer Amy Lee at the EVBoard.com message board. Lee wrote in part, "Unfortunately, I have some sad news. A few weeks ago, Will decided to leave the band. He said that he just can't go through with another huge tour right now, and wants to stay a little closer to his family instead...We love Will very much and wish him nothing but happiness in everything he does." Lee added that nothing else has changed in the band's schedule and that its second major label album, The Open Door, is still on track for an October 3rd release.
The record will feature the songwriting debut of former Cold guitarist Terry Balsamo, who replaced co-founder Ben Moody in late 2003. Balsamo suffered a stroke during the recording of The Open Door last November, but Lee told us he's on the mend: "Terry's doing really well, but it's been a rough ride for him, and that was the scariest thing that happened. Terry having the stroke was really frightening. It was sort of like the one thing that made the whole record kinda go, like, 'Who cares, like, is Terry okay?' And he is okay, and he's recovering, like, miraculously, but it's been a real struggle for him 'cause he kind of had to, like, relearn guitar."
The first single from The Open Door, "Call Me When You're Sober," will arrive at radio stations in early August.
Touring plans for The Open Door, as well as a replacement for Boyd, are yet to be unveiled.
