Metallica to appear on The Simpsons

Metallica will appear on the season premiere of The Simpsons, according to a posting at the band's official website. The show will air on the Fox network in America on September 10th, 2006. The four members of the band recorded their voices for the program last September, joining Blink-182, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mick Jagger, Aerosmith, Billy Corgan and many other artists who have guested on the long-running animated series.

Metallica members James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett have also lent their voices to the cartoon show Death Clock Metalocalypse, about a Norwegian heavy metal band called Deathklok. The program debuts next month on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block of adult-oriented animation.

All four members of Metallica also contributed their voices to another animated series, Disney's Dave The Barbarian, in 2004.

The band is currently at work on its ninth studio album, due out in 2007.
