Seattle park named for Jimi Hendrix
Seattle has honored the late Jimi Hendrix with a park in his name. Jimi Hendrix Park sits next to the Colman School in the city's Central District, where the guitar legend grew up. Councilmember Jean Godden, who's been a prime force behind naming the park after Hendrix, said, "This recognition is long overdue. I'm delighted the city has finally found a fitting tribute to honor the significant historical and cultural contributions of one of our most famous native sons."The land was once the school's playground, but in recent years, it's been used as a parking lot for Sam Smith Park, which is adjacent to it.
