Unreleased Hendrix song up for auction
An unreleased song recorded by Jimi Hendrix is going up for auction in the fall. The track, called "Station Break," was recorded in New York City in 1966, before he had adopted the "Jimi" spelling of his name. The winning bidder at the auction will get the actual reel-to-reel tape, along with one-half of the copyright on the song, which allows the owner to collect half of the royalties and licensing revenue from the music, with the other half belonging to the Hendrix estate. The auction will take place October 26th in New York City. Leon had contested his late father Al's will, saying that Janie coerced Al to disinherit Leon. The Court of Appeals in Washington State ruled unanimously on Monday (July 24th) that Al's will was valid, and that Janie didn't do anything wrong. The court also declined to hear an appeal in a separate case that Leon filed against Janie, in which he claimed she had interfered in his "inheritance expectancy." The court ruled that Leon's second case was based on the facts he presented in the first one, and since he lost the first one, there was no need to move forward with the second one.
Janie said, "All of us at Experience Hendrix are looking forward to continuing our efforts to maintain and protect the legacy of Jimi Hendrix, keeping his music alive for generations to come. That work is the fulfillment of my father's vision, and we will strive to honor his wishes now and in the future."
