Byrds box set bumped to September
The new Byrds box set that was supposed to come out later this month has been pushed back a few weeks. There Is A Season has 99 studio and live recordings over four CDs, including five tracks that have never been released, along with a 10-track DVD with TV performances from the 1960s. There Is A Season was originally due August 29th, but it's now coming out September 26th, according to billboard.com.
The liner notes feature an introduction by singer-guitarist Roger McGuinn, and a tribute from Tom Petty and Gary Louris of the band the Jayhawks. Petty said, "Perhaps the most intriguing thing about the Byrds was how well they fit into the '60s, as well as how they helped shape it. This was no one-and-a-half-hit pop group. These guys were Artists. They were going to push the envelope. The Beatles knew it and so did their fans."
The unreleased tracks include: "He Was a Friend of Mine," recorded for Swedish radio in April 1967; "You All Look Alike" and "Nashville West," which are from a performance at Queens College in New York City in February 1970; and "Baby What You Want Me To Do" and "I Trust" from the Fillmore East in New York City in September 1970.
