Disturbed singer's surgery a success
Disturbed vocalist David Draiman underwent successful surgery on August 15th to repair a deviated septum, according to a press release. The damage, caused by three broken noses over the last few years, made breathing difficult for the singer and affected his singing onstage. Just before his surgery, Draiman told us how the deviated septum affected his singing and forecasted his recovery: "Part of the side effect to having the deviations is that I have difficulty breathing during my sleep, and I'll breathe through my mouth, and it dries out my vocal chords over the course of the night. And so this will hopefully help the situation quite a bit. It's gonna be rough -- they say it's about a three to four week recovery period and I should be okay by the time we're ready to head out to Europe."
Draiman's procedure was called a septoplasty. It will allow him to breathe properly through his nose, relieving the burden on his throat and vocal chords.
The group has had to cancel or postpone a number of tour dates over the last 10 months due to the problem, for which Draiman saw several specialists.
In a statement following the operation, Draiman said, "I'm excited and relieved that the surgery is over and can't wait to get back on the road to see our fans in Europe and to make up the dates we missed."
Following the European tour, Disturbed will finalize the bill for the third edition of its Music As A Weapon tour, which is slated to run from November to February. So far, only Stone Sour has been confirmed for the line-up.
