Felix Cavaliere thinks that covers projects are a cop out
Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals says that although many people in the business have urged him to record an album of R&B covers, he's not interested.
Cavaliere told us that although he knows that his voice is perfectly suited to do an album of R&B standards, he's never been a fan of such projects: "They just never appealed to me, I say 'Oh God, I gotta go do the cover songs.' Especially somebody, like I say, as great as a Jackie Wilson, you're not gonna be able to sing that song as good as Jackie Wilson -- I don't care who you are. Y'know? And why bother? (Laughs) Y'know? For sales. That's a marketing thing. Yeah, of course, if you do songs that everybody knows, you've got a better chance of gettin' over than if you do songs that no one knows."
He is currently on the road this summer, and playing select dates as part of Hippiefest with an ever-changing set of acts, including Joey Molland's Badfinger, Mitch Ryder, and Country Joe McDonald, among others.
Felix Cavaliere's Rascals will next perform on Saturday (August 19th) in Palmdale, California at the Palmdale Amphitheater.
After that, Felix Cavaliere's Rascals will appear at Hippiefest on August 25th in Harford, Connecticut at the New England Dodge Music Center. Also appearing will be Blood Sweat & Tears, Canned Heat, Moody Blues and Wings co-founder, Denny Laine, Melanie and Rare Earth.
