Lollapalooza reports final attendance figures
Lollapalooza has reported more big attendance numbers for its second year as a stationary, one-weekend festival. Organizers announced that the event drew more than 166,000 people August 4th through 6th in Chicago's Grant Park, and made almost $8 million in ticket sales. Lollapalooza's biggest day was its third, Sunday, August 6th, when the Red Hot Chili Peppers closed the festival for 59,000 people. Opening day drew 52,000, while 56,000 attended the second day.
Organizers had projected a crowd of 225,000, but still judged the event a success. About 60,000 attended Lollapalooza's two days in 2005.
Other acts who performed at this year's Lollapalooza were Gnarls Barkley, Kanye West, Queens Of The Stone Age, Panic! At The Disco, Death Cab For Cutie, the Raconteurs, and Editors.
Lollapalooza became a stationary festival last year, after the 2004 edition of the tour was canceled due to low ticket sales.
Lollapalooza was launched in 1991 by former Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell. It was an annual tour through 1997, then resumed in 2003.
