Mark Knopfler signature acoustic guitar coming this year

Mark Knopfler has once again teamed up with the Martin Guitar company for a signature instrument. As he did with the first one, which was created in 2001, Knopfler worked hand-in-hand with the craftsmen at Martin to make a guitar that suited his particular playing style, while also honoring the legacy of the high-end instrument maker. The result is the new 000-40S Mark Knopfler "Ragpicker's Dream" Signature Edition, which actually has his signature in mother-of-pearl on the neck, as well as being signed on an interior label. The instruments, which also have a special "Ragpicker's Dream" logo on the back of the neck, are numbered in sequence, and the limited-edition guitar must be ordered through an authorized Martin dealer by September 15th. The guitar has a list price of $6,999.

The Ragpicker's Dream is the title of Knopfler's 2002 album.

Knopfler turns 57 on Saturday, August 12th.
