No new Linkin Park until next year
Linkin Park will not have its new album ready in time for release this year and will instead issue the disc in 2007, according to Billboard.com. Linkin Park MC Mike Shinoda said in an online chat a few days ago that "we're doing really well, but we just need a little more time." The band is still working on material for the project, which will follow up 2003's multi-platinum Meteora. Shinoda said that the band has "about 30 to 50 songs" that have a chance at making the final cut.
Shinoda described the sound of the album by saying, "So far it has a different sound that I cannot describe. It sounds like it's older, but not vintage. More organic in some spots, like just yesterday we recorded a song with no samples that is completely raw. Other songs are full of samples."
The rapper also said that he wasn't sure if a new song called "Qwerty," which showed up on the Internet earlier this month after the group played it in Japan, would surface on the yet-to-be-titled CD.
In other news, Linkin Park made its music available on iTunes beginning yesterday (Tuesday, August 29th). The group was one of the last superstar acts to hold off on selling its songs through the digital store. Three releases are available, each including two bonus tracks and a third cut that's exclusive to iTunes. The online outlet is also selling video footage from the band's DVDs.
Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington will show up on theatre screens this weekend, where he'll make a cameo in the new movie Crank. The film opens on Friday (September 1st).
