Orleans leader running for Congress

Orleans leader John Hall is no stranger to politics, having won three local elections in New York in the past, but he's eyeing a much bigger prize now. He's in the midst of a campaign for the House Of Representatives to serve the people of New York's 19th District, which lies north and west of New York City. Hall, who has always been politically active, told us that he feels the time is right to make some changes in Washington, D.C.: "Our government's been designed to have three co-equal branches of government, and to have checks and balances, and we haven't had any for the last five years, and that's why we're in so much trouble on every front. And in order to get checks and balances, we need the House Of Representatives back -- we need 15 seats to change hands, and I want to be one of them. And I plan on voting for universal health care, a new energy policy based on renewables, and an end to the war and an emphasis on diplomacy."

The singer and guitarist is one of five people running in a Democratic primary in the district, and the winner will oppose six-term incumbent Sue Kelly, who's seeking reelection on the Republican ticket.

Hall will join friends including Jackson Browne, Roseanne Cash, Steve Earle, and Nanci Griffith at a campaign fundraising concert in New York City on Sunday (August 20th). The show, which is billed as "A Small Circle Of Friends," will feature the musicians sitting in a semi-circle with acoustic guitars. Other "surprise guests" are also expected.

The official johnhallforcongress.com website includes the latest news and information about Hall's campaign, including his endorsement by the AFL-CIO and the release of his 35-page manual on alternative and sustainable energy sources.
