Queensryche kick off media extravaganza
Queensryche kicked off their North American tour on Friday, August 25th, in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The band did their Operation: Mindcrime I and II albums in their entirety, with a full-on multimedia extravaganza. Frontman Geoff Tate told us that the shows will expand on what they did last year, when they performed the first Operation: Mindcrime album live: "Some things I've never seen done before in a live setting before. There's an incredibly dramatic death scene with Mary, very graphic. There is some nudity with the show. It's a very adult thing, because, of course, of the nature of the story. It's the story of a terrorist, and there's addiction, there's violence, there's guns, those kind of things, so it's a night at the theater, you know, with real intense music. (chuckles)" )
Tate also told us that the shows will have actors portraying the different characters, different set pieces for different songs, and film screens that form walls on the stage.
During the tour, Tate and guitarist Mike Stone are hosting motorcycle rides with fans to raise money for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, which supports music education programs across the country. For more information, go to queensryche.com.
