School's In for Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper, the king of shock rock, is helping build a youth centre in Arizona, his foundation has announced.

Cooper's Solid Rock Foundation is to develop the centre for teenagers at Grand Canyon University, a non-denominational Christian centre of higher learning in Phoenix, according to a statement by the foundation, a nonprofit group.

The $3 million centre will feature a recording studio, indoor basketball courts, rock-climbing walls, coffeehouse, game room and concert hall. Construction is expected to begin next year.

"With Grand Canyon's support, we are fulfilling a vision we've had for several years -- to provide teens and children with a central place to learn, have fun, and explore their creativity in a supportive environment," Alice said in a statement.
