Strokes guitarist posts solo tracks online
Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has posted three songs from his upcoming solo debut at his MySpace page, MySpace.com/alberthammondjr. According to Pitchfork Media, the album, titled Yours To Keep, will be issued on October 9th in the U.K., although an American release date has yet to be announced. The three tracks made public are "Everyone Gets A Star," "101" and "Scared." Hammond handles lead vocals on all the songs.
It's rumored that Strokes singer Julian Casablancas makes an appearance on the album.
The Strokes will open some shows for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers during Petty's fall tour. The band will appear at the trek's two-night kick-off on September 14th and 15th in Chicago, and have confirmed four more dates with Petty following the Chicago gigs.
The shows with Petty will weave in and out of headlining dates scheduled through early October.
Meanwhile, the Strokes' cover of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy Mercy Me," featuring Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, will surface on September 26th as the B-side of the band's latest single, "You Only Live Once," according to Billboard.com. The disc will also feature a video for "You Only Live Once," which is taken off the band's third album, First Impressions of Earth.
