The Who pick Moe as tour opener
The Who have announced the first opening act for their upcoming North American tour. They've selected the jam-band Moe, who will play four shows with the Who -- September 25th in Chicago; September 26th in Des Moines, Iowa; September 29th in Auburn Hills, Michigan; and September 30th in London, Ontario. It's kind of a dream come true for Moe guitarist Al Schnier, who said, "I remember as a kid playing my tennis racket, way before I ever played guitar, and jamming to the Who... and listening to (singer-guitarist Pete) Townsend's Empty Glass in our family room over and over again... seeing the Who when they were touring for It's Hard. The Clash were opening -- who are also heroes of ours -- and we're worthy?! This is a BIG deal for us."The Who start their North American tour in Philadelphia on September 12th.
Moe aren't strangers to rock legends. They toured and performed with Mickey Hart and Bob Weir on the Grateful Dead-inspired Further Festival in 1997; with Robert Plant and his band the Strange Sensation in 2002; and with the Allman Brothers Band last year.
The Who just released a "mini-opera" called Wire & Glass, and they've got a new studio album coming in the fall.
Besides their regular tour schedule, Moe will celebrate their 15th anniversary this year with the October 3rd release of a DVD called Moe Live From The Fillmore, and they've got a new studio album coming in January.
