The Who to premiere new "Rock Opera" live on the BBC

The Who will premiere their recently released rock opera, titled Wire & Glass, live in October on the BBC TV show Electric Proms. Musicnews.virgin.net reported that for the taping, the group, which features co-founders Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, will return to London's legendary Roundhouse concert hall for the for the first time in nearly 36 years.

Townshend talked about the concept behind Wire & Glass to Britain's Radio One, and explained that it's about, "Three kids who form a band and they discover a stash of papers by some has-been rock star, talking about a massive Internet experiment... It just seemed to me to be an appropriate thing to play."

The band has a long history with the Roundhouse, having performed shows there in 1966, 1968, 1969, and 1970. Pete Townshend also performed his debut solo concert there on April 14th, 1974.

The Who's American tour kicks off on September 12th in Philadelphia at the Wachovia Center.
