ZZ Top to be inducted into Houston HoF
ZZ Top will be honored by the band's hometown this week. The group will be inducted into Houston, Texas, Hall of Fame at the Worthham Theater on Wednesday (August 23rd). The members of ZZ Top said, "We're thrilled to be recognized by the city we love for doing what we love for all these years. We did a song a while back entitled 'Heaven, Hell Or Houston,' and we're now quite convinced that the city is much closer to the former than the latter." ZZ Top formed in Houston in 1969, and they've always maintained a base in the city. This isn't the first time the band has been cited at home. They've previously been awarded the title Heroes Of The State Of Texas, Ambassadors Of Goodwill, and Admirals Of The Texas Navy. In addition, they've been deputized in their home county of Harris, as well as in Dallas, Bell, and Ector counties, and May 4th, 1991, was declared "ZZ Top Day" in Texas.
Also being honored this week are Pearce Industries Board Chairman Louis M Pearce, Jr., real estate magnate Ed Wulfe, and, in a posthumous induction, Dominique & John de Menil, who are credited with making Houston a top location in the arts and culture.
Previous inductees into the Houston Hall Of Fame include entrepreneur and ex-heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman, former Senator and Vice Presidential nominee Lloyd Bentsen, one-time Secretary Of State James A. Baker, NBA Hall Of Famer Clyde "The Glide" Drexler, and Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Mary Lou Retton, among many others.
ZZ Top is working on a new studio album, but there's no word on when it might be finished.
