30 Seconds To Mars wins performance atop Radio City Music Hall
30 Seconds To Mars has won a contest sponsored by Cingular Wireless in which the cellular service's users voted for one band to win a performance atop the Radio City Music Hall marquee on Thursday, September 7th, according to Billboard. The group, led by actor Jared Leto, beat out Angels And Airwaves, Blue October, the Pink Spiders, IMA Robot and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus for the gig, which is part of tonight's Fashion Rocks concert at the venue.
The win caps a week in which 30 Seconds To Mars landed a gold album for its second effort, A Beautiful Lie, and also walked away from the 2006 Video Music Awards with the MTV2 award for its video "The Kill." Leto told us that he's thrilled with the band's success this past year: "It's amazing. It's everything that you hope for, that you're gonna work on something for years and years and that people are gonna respond to it emotionally, cerebrally and all kinds of ways -- even if it makes 'em dance."
Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath will "open" for 30 Seconds To Mars at the Fashion Rocks event, which will begin streaming on Blueroom.ATT.com on Saturday (September 9th).
The band is scheduled to play festivals in Devore, California on September 23rd, Tempe, Arizona on September 30th and Pomona, California on October 15th, with a full North American tour expected to be announced imminently.
