Journey keyboardist salutes hometown on new solo album
Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain titled his new solo album Where I Live, so it shouldn't be a surprise that there's a song on it about where he's from originally. Cain is a Chicago native, and the track "Shine On Chicago" is a salute his hometown. He told us that the lyrics are an accurate reflection of what he went through: "All these things really happened to me. I grew up in a real wild time, in the '60s, you know -- Mayor Daley, the riots, and the Yippies, and revolution for the hell of it, Abbie Hoffman -- and through my eyes, this is what I saw with Chicago. I call it 'the city of extremes,' you know?"
In addition to the political and social references, "Shine On Chicago" also name-checks a number of Chicago icons, including the Bears and former coach Mike Ditka; the Cubs and Hall Of Fame shortstop Ernie Banks; crime boss Al Capone and federal agent Elliot Ness; advice columnist Ann Landers; and the elevated train.
Cain and his Journey mates return to the road with touring partners Def Leppard beginning October 11th in Fresno, California.
