Killers pay homage to Vegas pioneer with album title
The Killers have always been proud of their Las Vegas roots, and the band deliberately references its hometown in the title of its upcoming album, Sam's Town. Drummer Ronnie Vanucci told us who Sam was, and what he and the Killers have in common: "There was a casino in Vegas called Sam's Town, named after Sam Boyd. That's the guy who came to Las Vegas in the early '40s and basically came with nothing and worked his way up. He was very much about working class and I think that's, in a way, that's kind of where we're coming from. We're making the best of where we come from and who we are, and we're constantly developing."
Sam's Town arrives in stores on October 3rd, with the Killers kicking off a North American tour on October 6th in Los Angeles.
The first single from Sam's Town is "When You Were Young."
The Killers recently enlisted famed Batman and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory director Tim Burton to shoot a video for the song "Bones," also from Sam's Town. Burton, who has never done a music video before, shot live footage of the band in August and is now working on the clip's special effects.
