Lynyrd Skynyrd on Decades Rock Live
Lynyrd Skynyrd takes over VH1 Classic on Friday, September 1st, with the premiere of their edition of the series Decades Rock Live. The show features Skynyrd teamed up with old friends and new, including Hank Williams, Jr., the alternative rock band 3 Doors Down, and American Idol runner-up Bo Bice. Lynyrd Skynyrd was saluted by the guests, but lead singer Johnny Van Zant told us that one of the highlights of the show for him was getting to play on everyone else's songs: "The cool thing about this whole Decades Rock (Live) show was, is that we actually did 'Kryptonite' with 3 Doors Down, so Skynyrd actually played that, and I sang some of the lyrics and stuff like that with Brad (Arnold), and Bocephus's 'Born To Boogie,' I believe it was, and also Bo Bice's new single 'The Real Thing.' So it was kind of cool -- it wasn't just all for us, you know?" Van Zant also told us that he loves everyone on the show, but being with Hank Jr. is something special: "Those are the newcomers, as far as I'm concerned -- 3 Doors Down and Bo Bice -- but when you have Hank Williams, Jr. on stage with you, that's pretty amazing. (laughs). He's just one of a kind -- they broke the mold when they, (laughs) when they had Hank, that's for sure."
Van Zant is also happy to report that everyone at home in Jacksonville, Florida, is fine in the wake of Tropical Storm Ernesto.
Skynyrd hits the Anselmo Valencia Amphitheatre in Tucson on Friday, September 1st. The band has dates booked into October, and they're already lining up their 2007 itinerary.
Hank Jr. and Pat Green are playing in Clarkston, Michigan, on Friday.
