My Chemical Romance scraps shows as drummer is hospitalised
My Chemical Romance was forced to cancel two shows over the weekend when drummer Bob Bryar was hospitalized, according to MTV.com. The band pulled out of concerts in Allentown, Pennsylvania on Saturday (September 2nd) and Syracuse, New York on Sunday (September 3rd) after Bryar was taken to the hospital for complications from an injury he suffered last month. Bryar was hospitalized after My Chemical Romance performed its new single, "Welcome to the Black Parade," during the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show last Thursday night (August 31st).
A posting at the band's website read, "As a result of complications with a previous injury, Bob ended up in the hospital with a staph infection. He's being monitored all weekend and we want to be by his side the whole time."
Bryar sustained his original injury on August 3rd while the band was filming videos for "Welcome to the Black Parade" and another, unnamed song. In an online press conference, singer Gerard Way described how Bryar got hurt: "Bob, for the last shot of the video, I don't know how he did it, but his leg was being burned so bad from this fire that was on set, and he still stayed there so we could get the shot. But what ended up happening was (the) back of his left leg got a second and third degree burn."
The band had to scrap a performance at San Diego's Street Scene festival the weekend after the shoot due to Bryar's injury.
"Welcome to the Black Parade" comes off My Chemical Romance's new album, The Black Parade, which is due out on October 24th.
My Chemical Romance said on its website that it plans to make up the dates as soon as it can. A publicist for the band told us on Tuesday, September 5th, that Bryar was "fine" and now out of the hospital.
