New book sheds light on Rolling Stones "Exile On Main St." sessions
A new book chronicling the sessions behind the Rolling Stones' 1972 Exile On Main St. album will be released on November 30th. Exile On Main St.: A Season In Hell With The Rolling Stones was written by noted rock author Robert Greenfield, who charts the decadent life style the Stones were living in and around the French Riviera during the spring and summer of 1971. One observer called the area where the Stones' relocated after becoming British tax exiles "a sunny place for shady people."
Engineer Andy Johns, among other Stones intimates, sheds new light on the band's inner workings and escalating drug use, and the actual sessions for the album, which were mostly recorded in the dank, humid basement of Keith Richards' rented seaside mansion, named Villa Nellcote.
