No more nu-metal for Linkin Park

Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington told MTV on Thursday, September 28th, that the group's original "nu-metal" sound, a combination of heavy rock and hip-hop, is totally absent from the band's new material. Bennington said, "We're going for the music that inspired us, rather than the nu-metal type of sound. We're ripping that out. It's completely gone." As a result, Bennington said the group's third album will feature a mix of punk, classic rock and older hip-hop beats, adding, "We're straying away from a lot of the predictable sounds we've had in the past, but there's no question in your mind when you hear it that it's Linkin Park."

Linkin Park has spent the last year writing more than 100 songs under the supervision of producer Rick Rubin. Although the band has not settled on the final number of tracks, Bennington said the set will not be a double album.

The singer also hinted that the group had decided on a title, but did not reveal it, explaining, "It's a title I think is good and fitting for the world and also some of our own personal situations over the last couple of years."

Linkin Park's new album is due out in early 2007. Bennington has also put plans for a solo effort on hold until after Linkin Park finishes promoting the new CD.
